Join me in supporting Mental Health Advocacy Services (MHAS) during Mental Health Awareness Month.

Please consider making a donation to support MHAS's mission of protecting and advancing the rights of low-income people with mental health disabilities during this global health crisis.

This crisis is disproportionately affecting low-income people with mental health disabilities. Not only do these individuals lack the benefit of strong safety nets or savings to face the economic challenges, but they currently face serious medical discrimination as medical teams face difficult decisions about rationing and prioritizing medical care as patients suffering from the novel coronavirus inundate available resources. People with disabilities are most likely to bear the burden of these hard decisions. The lives of people with mental health disabilities are NOT worth less than anyone else's.

In addition, right now, people with mental health disabilities have little or no access to in-house aides or day care services that are part of the fabric of their everyday life. Social distancing is creating feelings of loneliness and isolation that can exacerbate their existing mental health condition. Many also have additional sets of challenges, such as housing or health care issues, that will persist long after the immediate threat of COVID-19 disappears.

While some legal protections have been enacted during this crisis, low-income people with mental health disabilities will also need access to reliable legal advice and representation to help them navigate the intricate web of federal, state, and local policies. MHAS provides this work free of charge for more than 3,000 people every year - and we anticipate serving even more in 2020.

For the last 43 years, MHAS has fought discrimination and protected the rights of people with mental health disabilities. Your gift will ensure that MHAS can continue this mission during and after this pandemic. Thank you for your support!
